On iPhone the code to type is * 3001 #12345 # *: you may need to press on the item UMTS Cell Environment, to access information about the data network. In addition to ServiceMode, there are also several other applications that allow you to understand at which frequency / network your mobile phone is connected. Below you will find the solutions of this type that I believe to be more valid.


CellMapper (Android)

CellMapper is one of the most used applications to find frequency bands on Android. It supports many operators and smartphones and is therefore generally reliable. It is totally free but contains some advertisements.


To download CellMapper on your device, just connect to the Play Store, search for "cellmapper"(Or visit the link I just provided), select theicona dell'applicazione (the one with the green bars) and press the button Install.

Remember to connect your smartphone to the Internet via the Data connection. If you don't know how to do it, I suggest you consult my guide on how to connect to the Internet via the cellular data network. At this point, start the application and press on the item CONSENT, to grant you all the necessary authorizations (authorizations for position e calls, data used by the app to understand at which frequency / network the smartphone is connected).

Next, choose whether or not to contribute to the data collection (in order to update the map of the available cells and make the information accessible to other users) and you will find yourself in front of the main CellMapper screen, where everything you need will be present. In particular, you will find the writings Band Number, RX Frequency e TX Frequency. However, only the data may be present (EA/UA/A) RFCN, which allows to obtain the frequency through simple converters.

In the latter case, I recommend that you use the official CellMapper tool. To proceed, then connected to the official website of the service, select the type of network you are connected to (eg. LTE 4G), enter the value (EA/UA/A) RFCN you found in the application and press the button Calculate. Perfect, it will appear on the screen frequency to which your smartphone is connected.


NetMonster (Android)

Another valid application that allows you to check which frequency / network your smartphone is connected to is NetMonster. The app is only available for Android and it also allows you to get the exact location of the nearest cell. It is completely free and does not include any type of advertisements or in-app purchases.


To install NetMonster on your smartphone, simply open the Play Store, type "netmonster"(Or visit the link I just provided), select theicona dell'applicazione (a white antenna on a green background) and tap the button Install.

Once the application is open, first tap on the button GRANT PERMISSION and then on that CONSENT, to grant the app permission to use the position. Once this is done, all the information you need will appear on the screen: in green there will be thecell address to which your device is connected, while at the top you can find information about the band and on frequencies used (e.g. 4G LTE-A 800 + 2100).

Furthermore, the code will not be missing EARFCN, which allows you to calculate the frequencies used. I have already explained to you how to use this data in the chapter dedicated to CellMapper (the procedure to follow is the same).

OpenSignal (Android/iOS)

How do you say? Would you just need a map to figure out which cells are nearby? No problem: there is an application designed for this purpose. It is about OpenSignal, which is free and does not contain any type of advertisement or in-app purchase.

To install OpenSignal on your device, just open the Play Store (if you have an Android smartphone) or the App Store (if you have an iPhone), search for "opensignal", Tap onicona dell'applicazione (a black antenna above a map) and press the button Installa / Ottieni. If you use iOS, you also need to verify yours identity via Face ID, Touch ID or Apple ID password.

Once the application is open, click on the item OK and tap on the writing CONSENT, then granting the app access to position e calls (required for correct cell detection). At this point, press onlocation icon present at the bottom right and zoom into the map until your area is highlighted.

How to solve the coverage problem

If you have encountered a coverage problem with the mobile network, you may want to consider purchasing one repeater / amplifier.

In fact, there are multiple types of repeaters / amplifiers on the market that can be positioned inside the house.
