How to update WhatsApp on iPhone

Preliminary operation

update WhatsApp on iPhone you have the possibility to act with two different procedures. Depending on what your preferences are, you can, in fact, update the app automatically, i.e. by making sure that the iPhone itself updates the application, or manually.

In the latter case, you will then have to start the update yourself. The update, of course, will only take place when a new version is available for the application and also when the device is connected to the Internet.

In case you are undecided on the procedure to be carried out, I would like to point out that the result is finally practically identical, so the choice of mode is absolutely at your discretion. That said, before starting the WhatsApp update with one of the methods indicated above, you must perform a preliminary operation: make sure that your smartphone has been correctly connected to the Internet.

To verify that the Wi-Fi or packet data, refer to the respective icons located in the Control Center of iOS.

Then swipe from bottom to top on your device's home screen (or swipe down from the top right corner of the screen if you have an iPhone X or later) and make sure the Wi-Fi or that of the Data connection are active. If not, tap one of the icons you see.

To connect to the Internet, you can also act via the menu of Settings of iOS. Then tap on the icon with the symbol of a gear on the home screen, then presses on the voice Wi-Fi and move the lever up ON, in correspondence with the wording Wi-Fi.

At this point, select the item that refers to your home network and tap on it to connect. If prompted, type the Password access to it.

If, on the other hand, you intend to connect via cellular data, returns to the screen Settings, tap on the item Mobile phone and finally, move the lever up ON, corresponding to the item Cellular data, in order to activate it.

Update WhatsApp on iPhone automatically

If you have successfully connected the iPhone to the Internet and if you prefer to perform the procedure relating to the automatic update mode, carefully follow the steps that I will show you in the next lines.

To get started, click on the icon with a symbol gear located on the home screen, in order to display the panel of Settings. Now, in the screen you see, locate and tap on the item iTunes Store and App Store then, subsequently, move up ON the lever that refers to the option Updates.

Furthermore, if you want automatic updates to be downloaded via cellular data as well (and therefore not only in Wi-Fi), move to ON the lever at the wording Use cellular data that you find a little further below.

Once this is done, every time the iPhone will be connected to an active and working Wi-Fi network, or it will be connected to the data network of your smartphone, it will automatically update WhatsApp, if a new version of the latter is available. By doing so, no type of intervention will be required on your part for the execution of subsequent updates.

Update WhatsApp on iPhone manually

If, on the other hand, you prefer update WhatsApp manually, the steps you need to take are even easier. If your smartphone is connected to the Internet, as I explained in the previous chapter, press the icon of theApp Store that you find on the home screen (is the light blue icon with the letter "A"White in the center).

Now, in the new screen you see, tap on the item Updates located in the bottom bar (it is the icon with the symbol of a down arrow). At this point, if the icon of WhatsApp is present in this screen, it means that a new update is available. Then start the update by pressing the button Update that you see on the screen.

In case, in the section Updates dell 'App Store, there was the wording apri in place of Update, it means that the application has already been updated recently and therefore you do not need to intervene to update. If, on the other hand, the WhatsApp icon is absent in the section Updates it means that, at the moment, there are no updates to be made for it.

What to do in case of problems

Generally speaking, updating an application on iPhone, such as the one you just performed automatically or manually, is a procedure that, in most cases, does not create any kind of problem.

However, it may happen that some hiccups may occur during the update process. In this regard, over the next few lines, I will help you solve the most common problems related to updating WhatsApp. Then refer to my indications, in order to be able to identify the problem you encountered and, consequently, the relative solution.

You would like the application of WhatsApp update automatically, but it doesn't? In this case, check that you have not accidentally disabled the functionality of aggiornamento automatico of iOS I told you about in the dedicated chapter. By doing all the operations I mentioned above, downloading the update for the WhatsApp it will take place completely automatically.

When you try to do a manual update for the WhatsAppby pressing button Update, nothing happens? In this case, I recommend that you check that your device has been correctly connected to the Internet. Without a connection, in fact, it is not possible to download it. In this regard, refer to the chapter in which I explained how to connect an iPhone to the Internet.

Also, in case you encounter any problems with the application of WhatsApp, following an update, I recommend that you uninstall the app and reinstall it via theApp Store of iOS.

Before doing this, make sure you do a backup of conversations via iCloud (Apple's default cloud storage service free up to 5GB, expandable for a fee starting from € 0,99 / month).

Then go to the menu Settings di WhatsApp, presses on the voice Chat and finally, tap on the wording Backup of chats, in order to adjust the backup related settings.

If you have any problems or doubts, refer to my guide in which I tell you more in detail about this functionality of the messaging app. This way, after the app is reinstalled, your conversations can be restored.

A common problem regarding the difficulty of updating WhatsApp is due to the lack of space in the phone memory. In this case, if you are unable to update the app, proceed by uninstalling the apps you do not use and also the unnecessary temporary data.

For the correct execution of these procedures you can refer to my tutorial in which I explain how to uninstall apps on iPhone or also to my guide in which I talk to you about how to increase memory on iPhone and the one in which I explain how to free the smartphone memory .

Finally, if you are not sure if you have successfully completed the WhatsApp update, just do a very quick cross-check, comparing the version number. In fact, just check the number of the latest version of WhatsApp available in theApp Store and compare it with the one present in the application you installed.

To do this, start theApp Store of iOS by pressing on its icon on the home screen, presses the button Search located in the lower right corner, type WhatsApp and click on the corresponding search result, in order to display the app preview card.

Now tap on the wording Version history that you see on the screen and, through this screen, find the most recent update of the application and the version number (for example 2.18.91). Remember this number, possibly writing it down somewhere, so as not to forget it.

At this point, check the version number of WhatsApp installed on your iPhone. To do this, start the messaging application by pressing on its icon on the home screen, then tap on the item Settings (the symbol of a gear that you find at the bottom right).

Then tap on the item Help (I) so you can see the wording at the top Version and its number. If the number previously displayed in theApp Store corresponds to the latter, it means that on your device there is the latest available version of WhatsApp.
