If you are looking for a system to transform JPG into ICO on your computer without having to download and install new programs, you can rely on Online ICO converter it is a free online service that can be used without over making registrations that allows you to transform JPG files (as well as PNG, GIF, BMP and many others) with a total weight of 4 MB into ICO files and which, very interestingly, allows you to select a specific output resolution and color depth.

To use it, connected to the website of the service by clicking on the link that I have provided you a moment ago, click on the button to upload the file that you find under the heading Image file and select the image in JPG format you want to convert.

Then indicate the resolution you intend to exploit by placing a check mark on the box corresponding to the desired option under the item Size and select the degree of color depth by choosing from the options attached to the section Bit depth. Finally, click on the button Convert and wait a few moments for the transformation procedure to be started and completed.

A new web page will then open containing your icon. To save it to your computer, move the cursor over it, right click and choose the save option from the context menu that is shown to you. If you have not made any changes to the default settings of the web browser you are using, the icon will be saved in the folder Download Of computer.

Software to transform JPG into ICO


If you prefer to transform JPC into an ICO using a special software to download and install on your computer, then you cannot fail to contact SimplyIcon. It is a free software, specific for Windows and very practical to use that does only one thing but does it flawlessly: transform photos into icons.

To use it, go to the download web page of the program using the link I provided you a little while ago and click on the item version 1.1 to download the program to your PC. When the download is complete, double-click on it to open the archive you just downloaded and extract the contents to any folder.

Then start the program SimplyIcon.exe and, in the window that opens and drag with the mouse the image in JPG format that you want to transform into an icon. After a few moments, the program will automatically save the newly attempted ICO file in the image source location.

In the generated icons, 32 × 32, 24 × 24 and 16 × 16 pixel versions of the icons are automatically included. If the source image has an adequate size, an ICO file in the 128 × 128 pixel version is also generated.

Please note: The software requires the presence of . NET Framework 2.0 or later in order to function. If it is not installed on your computer, fix it immediately by downloading it from here.

It is a program for Windows that allows everyone to create icons quickly and easily either by drawing them, using a wide range of tools and special effects, or by selecting the images saved on their computer, customizing them (if necessary) and converting them. Try it and you will see that you will not regret it. The software is paid (it costs just under 33,00 € for single license for home use) but usable at no cost for a trial period of 30 days

To start using IcoFX on your PC, connect to the software download page using the link I just provided you after clicking on the green button Download Now. When the download is complete, double-click on it, open the file you just downloaded and, in the window that is shown to you, click on OK, put a check mark on the box next to the item I accept the terms of the license agreement, click on the button Install and finally presses the button end.

In the software window that will now open on the desktop, click on the button Close attached to the box that opened and click on the icon White sheet present at the top left. Then set the resolution you prefer among those available in the drop-down menu that you find next to the item Standard and then click OK.

Then click on the menu Image, select the voice Import Images ... and open the JPG file on your computer that you intend to transform into ICO. At this point, all you have to do is modify the image, if necessary, using the tools of IcoFX.

Then proceed to save the image as an icon by selecting the item Save from the menu Fillet, indicating the location in which to save the file and choosing the format Windows icon (* .ico) from the menu that you find corresponding to the item Save eat:. Done! Now you have some very original icons to use to embellish your computer as you see fit. Happy?

How to change icons

After managing to transform JPG into ICO, are you wondering how to use the new icons to replace those already in use? It's that easy. Find everything explained below.

  • To change the icons on the desktop, like those in the Recycle Bin and My Computer, you have to right-click anywhere on the desktop and select the item Customize from the menu that appears. In the window that opens, select the item Change desktop icons located in the left sidebar. If you are using Windows 10, choose the item first Temi attached to the left sidebar and then click on Desktop Icon Settings. Afterward, choose which icon to change and click the button Change icon ... to select the ICO file you want to replace the default Windows icon with.
  • To change program and folder shortcut icons, right click on them, select the item Property from the menu that appears and, in the window that opens, click on the button Change icon ....
  • To change the folder icons, right click on them, select the item Property from the menu that appears and, in the window that opens, click on the tab first Customize and then on the button Change icon ....
