You would like to know how to turn a color photo into black and white with GIMP, the famous free and open source alternative to Photoshop? I guarantee you that doing it is easier than you can imagine: just import the image to be edited into GIMP and use the black and white filter included in the program.
To proceed, start GIMP (if you haven't downloaded it yet, do it now following the instructions I gave you in this other guide), click on the item Apri ... present in the menu Fillet (top left) and select the image to edit.
At this point, go to the menu Colors> Hue-saturation ... Among the available filters, there is also some that allows you to turn color photos into black and white. Although it is a free solution, I would like to tell you that it is possible to subscribe to a subscription of 21,49 euros / year to access additional filters and functions.
- Pixelmator (iOS) - is a powerful photo editing app for Apple devices that allows you to desaturate photos using some ad hoc functions. It is not free: it costs 5,99 euros. I also point out the existence of its desktop version that offers even more advanced functions, at a cost of 43,99 euros after a free trial.
