    How to convert audio

    Fri: ac (Windows / Mac / Linux)

    The first software for convert audio that I recommend you try is Fre: ac. If you have never heard of it, it is a free and open source application that allows you to convert all major audio file formats (MP3, MP4 / M4A, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, WAV and Bonk) together. ) and to "rip" audio CDs. It is compatible with both Windows and macOS and Linux, so you can use it regardless of the operating system installed on your PC.



    To download Fre: ac on your computer, connect to its official website and click on the link Self extracting installer: freac-xx.exe if you use a Windows PC or on the link Binary .dmg image: freac-xx-macosx.dmg if you use a Mac.

    When the download is complete, if you are using a Windows PC, open the installation package of Fre: ac (freac-xx.exe) and complete the program setup by first clicking on Yes and then NEXT, Yes, yet NEXT three consecutive times and finally Install e end.

    If you are using a Mac, to install Fre: ac on your computer you need to open the dmg package downloaded from the program's website and copy the icon it contains into the folder Applications of macOS. At the first start of the software, to avoid the appearance of errors, it may be necessary to right click on its icon and select the item apri give the menu to compare.

    Once the installation is complete, to convert audio files with Fre: ac all you have to do is select the output format you prefer from the appropriate drop-down menu and adjust the codec settings (i.e. the bitrate and other settings of the songs to be obtained). Then click on arrow next to the ▶ ︎ button in the Fre: ac toolbar and select one of the output formats supported by the program: MP3, FLAC, WAV etc.



    Then click on thegear which is always found in the Fre: ac toolbar and sets all the parameters relating to the quality of the audio files to be obtained. If you have chosen a lossy format such as MP3 or FLAC, I advise you never to go below 192 kbps if you don't want to get bad quality songs.

    Per finire, click on your button Shop by Department located at the bottom right and select the folder in which to save the output files, drag the songs to be converted into the Fre: ac window and start their conversion by pressing the ▶ ︎ button.

    If you want to "rip" songs from an audio CD, you have to follow the same procedure that I have just shown you, except that instead of dragging the songs to be converted into the Fre: ac window you have to click on the button Add tracks from audio CDs to the list located at the top left (the audio CD icon with the "+" symbol next to it).

    MediaHuman Audio Converter (Windows / Mac)

    Another free software that I highly recommend you to try is MediaHuman Audio Converter, which is compatible with both Windows and macOS and allows you to convert all major audio file formats together: WMA, MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG , AIFF and Apple Lossless.

    To download MediaHuman Audio Converter on your computer, connect to its official website and click on the button Download. Then, if you are using a Windows PC, open the program installation package (MHAudioConverter.exe), click on your button Yes and check the item I accept the terms of the license agreement. Then click on NEXT for four consecutive times and finish the setup by clicking on first Install and then end.



    If you are using a Mac, after downloading MediaHuman Audio Converter on your computer, you need to open the dmg package that contains the program and drag its icon into the folder Applications of macOS. At the first start, to avoid the appearance of error messages, you may have to right-click on the MediaHuman Audio Converter icon and start the program by selecting the item apri give the menu to compare.

    At this point, to convert music files with MediaHuman Audio Converter, drag them into the program window or click on the button [+] located at the top left and select them "manually". Then expand the drop-down menu with i file formats (top center) and select the type and bitrate of the audio files you want to get. I always advise you not to go below 192 kbps to maintain acceptable sound quality.

    When the operation is completed, click on the icon with the two arrows located at the top right and wait for the conversion to complete. The duration of the operation depends on the number of songs to be processed and the power of the computer in use.

    By default, songs converted with MediaHuman Audio Converter are saved in a folder named Converted by MediaHuman placed in the folder Music Of computer. To change the destination path of the converted files, click on the icon wrench, select the scheda output from the window that opens and click on the button [...].


    Windows Media Player (Windows)

    If you want to "rip" an audio CD to convert the songs it contains to MP3, WAV or FLAC, you can use the good old Windows Media Player which is included "as standard" in all popular editions of Windows and - perhaps not everyone knows - allows you to extract tracks from music CDs in an incredibly easy and fast way.


    To "rip" a CD with Windows Media Player, all you have to do is select its icon from the sidebar of the program, click on the button CD Copy Settings located at the top right and select the output format you prefer.

    Finally, press the button Copy from CD and wait patiently for the conversion to be completed.

    iTunes (Windows / Mac)

    Also iTunes, Apple's multimedia software that is included "standard" with all Macs and is available as a free download for all Windows-equipped PCs, allows you to "rip" audio CDs.

    To take advantage of the iTunes "ripping" features, all you have to do is insert an audio CD into your computer, open the program and respond Yes to the import request that appears on the screen. Alternatively, you can select the CD from the iTunes sidebar and press the button Import CD which is located at the top right.

    To set the output format of the songs to be copied to your computer, go to the menu Pref Renze iTunes, select the tab Generali from the window that opens and click on the button Import settings which is located at the bottom right.

    xACT (Mac)

    Have you downloaded some songs in FLAC format on your Mac and can't play them in iTunes? Quiet, it's normal. iTunes does not support FLAC format audio files, but converting them to Apple Lossless format can solve the problem without degrading the quality of the downloaded songs.

    To convert files in FLAC format into Apple Lossless (m4a) files supported by iTunes, you can rely on the free xACT application which is extremely simple to use: to download it on your computer, connect to its official website and click on the link Download v2.xx which is at the top of the page.

    A download complete, apri il dmg package you downloaded on your Mac, copy the xACT icon into the folder Applications macOS and start the program by right clicking on its icon and selecting the item apri give the menu to compare.

    At this point, select the tab encode, drag the FLAC songs to be transformed into Apple Lossless in the xACT window and start their conversion by placing the check mark next to the item Apple Lossless e pigging your pulse Encode.

    Media.io (Online)

    Would you like to convert audio files without installing programs on your computer? In this case you can rely on Media.io, a Wondershare online service that allows you to convert all major audio file formats together. It's free, requires no registration, and is compatible with all popular web browsers.

    To convert one or more songs with Media.io, connected to the home page of the service, press the button Select file to upload and select the files to convert. Then click on the button for the output format you want to obtain (MP3, WAV, WMA o OGG), select the bitrate which must have the output songs (96, 128, 192 or 320 kbps) and start the conversion by clicking on the button Converted.

    The conversion process may go on for a long time, as the files must be uploaded to the Media.io servers before being converted.
