Preliminary information

Before getting into the tutorial and find out how to unblock whatsapp, it is good that you learn some preliminary information about the procedure for blocking accounts on the famous instant messaging platform: by doing so, you will first be able to understand what gave rise to the blocking and, above all, how to prevent this situation from happening again in the future.

Let's start by saying that there are basically two types of block: that temporary and that permanent bases, the characteristics of which are indicated below.

  • Temporary block - it can last one or more days and its duration is marked by a timer that stands out on the home screen of the app. You can face the temporary blocking of your account if you use unofficial clients to access WhatsApp, if you send too many messages to "unknown" people (that is, they do not have their number in the address book), if you create groups with many users who do not have their own contact, if you are blocked by a considerable number of people in a relatively short amount of time, or if you send the same message to many people (without using broadcast lists).
  • Permanent block - this type of block lasts forever, unless it can be shown that it is the result of an error by the WhatsApp team. You may face the permanent blocking of your account if you use WhatsApp to send advertising messages, if you send spam messages, if you publish content that is not allowed (images, videos and other material with sexually explicit, offensive, harmful, violent or incite hatred towards someone or something in particular), if you repeatedly use unofficial clients or if you continually break the terms of use of the service.

So far all clear? Well, then let's take action immediately and see how to request the unblocking of WhatsApp ... or at least let's try to do it, for what is in our possibilities. Let's cross our fingers so that everything goes well!

How to unblock blocked WhatsApp

Now that you are aware of the possible causes that led to the blocking of your WhatsApp account, I would say that you are ready to find out how to try to remedy the situation, both in the event of a temporary and permanent block. Let's see, therefore, how to unblock locked whatsapp.

Remove the temporary lock

If your account has only been blocked in via temporary, and then on the main screen of the application you see a countdown of 24, 48 or more hours, you can restore access to WhatsApp by removing the causes of the block and patiently waiting for the timer to expire.

As we have seen above, the causes of a temporary block on WhatsApp can be many. If you have sent too many messages to "unknown" people or if you have been blocked by a large number of users in a short time, you do not have to do anything, except wait patiently for the countdown to reach zero: at the end of the countdown, in fact , you should regain access to all your conversations and, to avoid being blocked again, you will need to avoid sending messages to people who do not have your number in their address book (who may report you).

If, on the other hand, you have made use of third-party clients (which are not officially supported by WhatsApp), immediately remove them from the phone, wait for the block to finish and reinstall the official application for Android and iPhone.

This is the correct procedure to perform if you have a terminal Android (platform on which the "alternative" clients for WhatsApp are most widespread).

  • Log in to drawer Android, i.e. the screen where all the applications installed on the phone are listed;
  • Find the alternative WhatsApp client you used to access the service. It could also be called WhatsApp or with a similar name (ex. WhatsApp +, WhatsAppMD, WhatsApp Reborn o Whatsfapp);
  • Press and hold the app icon and drag it to the button Uninstall or on basket which appears at the top;
  • Press on the button OK to confirm the cancellation of the application;
  • Wait for the temporary blocking of your WhatsApp account to expire;
  • Install WhatsApp again, follow the initial application setup procedure and you should be able to access your conversations again.

Instead, this is the correct procedure to perform on a iPhone (although it is less common to come across third-party clients for WhatsApp on smartphones of the "bitten apple").

  • Access the Home screen of iOS and open the app Settings (the gray icon depicting the gears);
  • Long tap on the icon alternative WhatsApp client, until it begins to "dance", then presses the button (X) that appears on it and you answer Delete to the message that appears on the screen.
  • Wait for the temporary blocking of your WhatsApp account to expire;
  • Re-install the official WhatsApp app, follow the initial application setup procedure and, if all goes well, you should be able to log in to your account again.

In the unfortunate event that your account is still blocked after the countdown has expired, try sending an email (written in English) to one of the following addresses. You have to choose the one related to the operating system installed on your smartphone.

  • Android - android_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • iPhone - iphone_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • Windows Phone - wp_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • Web and Desktop - webclient_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • Other - support@whatsapp.com.

With a bit of luck - if you have not violated the terms of use of the service - access to your account will be restored within a few days. For more information on WhatsApp contact methods, visit this page on the service website and also take a look at my guide on how to contact WhatsApp.

Remove the permanent block

Unblock WhatsApp after undergoing a permanent block account (when the message is displayed on the main screen of the app "Your number is no longer authorized to use our service") is not at all simple.

The only solution you can try is to send an email to WhatsApp technical support (in English) and request a more in-depth analysis of your case to prove that you have not committed one of the infractions that lead to the permanent ban of the account. The support email addresses you can send a message to (in English) are listed below. Choose the one related to the operating system installed on your smartphone.

  • Android - android_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • iPhone - iphone_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • Windows Phone - wp_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • Web and Desktop - webclient_web@support.whatsapp.com.
  • Other - support@whatsapp.com.

For more information regarding WhatsApp contact methods, visit this page on the service website and read my guide on how to contact WhatsApp.

Caution: if you cannot prove your "innocence" and the WhatsApp team does not consent to the unblocking of your account, do not give in to the temptation to turn to applications and services that promise to unblock WhatsApp! There are tons of such solutions on the web that promise to unlock permanently locked accounts and / or speed up the countdown for temporarily locked accounts. Well, at best they don't work, but much more often they are a vehicle for malware; so I invite you to stay away from it!
